I lovelovelove what you said about Mal and Nathan's ability to convey both the darkness and the light of the character. Yes, he's the cheeky, charming anti-hero but he's so much more than that. His humour, his anger, his love, his loyalty, his pride - fantastic. And awww Jim. I like that he's romantic without being overly saccharine about it. He just feeeeels things.
