30 Day TV Meme: Day #3 - Your favorite new show (aired this TV season)

Community

This could be Modern Family, but I’ve decided it doesn’t try as hard or try to be as big or different as Community does every single week (and maybe that’s also why MF is more consistent - it isn’t more different? it doesn't try to stray from formula as much as Community does?).

Community’s characters are strange and unique and absolutely wonderful (with a really, really great cast), the storylines are just this side of insane and yet believable, it’s hilarious and smart, and yet very genuine and warm, and I have a great time with it every week (save the finale, which I mostly got tired with). Modern Warfare is a lot of fun, and I love that it took the chance to be as big as that, but I mostly love the smaller episodes - Debate 100, Investigative Journalism, and Comparative Religion.

Extra note: Donald Glover is wonderful as Troy, Danny Pudi is ridiculously amazing as Abed, and I love every single character, but these two the most.

Runner-Up: Modern Family, because they do what they do very well, normal as it is.

Funny - I was certain that this year was a great year for TV for a reason, but other than Glee I can't think of any show within this season that I loved. (I'll probably remember it when I can't do anything about adding it to this entry, ugh.)

Perfect choice. I would choose Community as well (Glee is too wildly consistent and frustrating to get the slot). I initially wasn't all that interested because it seemed like your average sitcom, but I decided to watch it for Joel McHale. I've been pleasantly surprised all season with how unique the show is in terms of its comedic stylings.

I'm beginning to realise it wasn't really for me after all

In the beginning it was totally and completely up my alley. Subversive comedy! With musical numbers! Weee! But now it's just so completely literal and unironic with the execution of its storylines with an added dose of inconsistency and lack of character development on top that it's hard to fathom that it's even the same show that I fell in love with after watching the Pilot. Watch, I'll still be watching in the fall. Because apparently I need something to get indignant about, and my other shows just make me too happy or something.

YAAAAY Community!! But yay for Modern Family too, because while I've seen less of that, it's pretty damn hilarious too. Community makes fun of itself in such marvelous ways; the snarky humor totally works for me. And, y'know, Joel. <3333

Community has to be the best surprise this year. Like Glee, I'm not sure how long the format will last but I'm hoping it lasts a long time :) The finale was odd - like the penultimate episode was a better finale, but apparently they wanted to comment on ship wars.

Hopefully they've learned that's something more like Fight Club ;)
